Dimethylformamide also known as DMF is an organic compound with the formula (CH3)2NC(O)H. It is used as a reagent in the Bouveault aldehyde synthesis and in the Vilsmeier-Haack reaction. It is also a common catalyst used in the synthesis of acyl halides.
N,N-Dimethylformamide is a colorless, odorless water-miscible liquid solvent used in the production of acrylic fibers, plastics, pesticides, and synthetic leather.
