About Methyl Acetate
Methyl acetate is a carboxylate ester with the formula CH₃COOCH₃ which is a flammable liquid with a pleasant fruity odour. Methyl acetate is produced industrially via the carbonylation of methanol as a byproduct of the production of acetic acid.
Methyl acetate is used as a solvent in paints, glues, and nail polish removers. It is used as a food additive to enhance the flavour of food.
