About Glyoxal
Glyoxal is a linear aliphatic dialdehyde containing two aldehyde groups. It is the dialdehyde that is the smallest possible and which consists of ethane having oxo groups on both carbons.
Glyoxal is used in the textile industry as an ingredient in permanent press fabrics, as a stabilizing agent in rayon, and as a reducing agent in the dyeing process. It is a valuable building block in organic synthesis, especially in the synthesis of heterocycles such as imidazoles.
