About Formamide
Formamide is the simplest carboxylic acid amide which is a viscous, odorless, colorless liquid that is miscible with water. It is the simplest monocarboxylic acid amide, obtained by formal condensation of formic acid with ammonia.
Formamide is used as a feedstock in the manufacture of formate esters, as an RNA stabilizer in gel electrophoresis, as an ionizing solvent, and in tissue preservation. It is a solvent for many ionic compounds and used as a softener for paper and fiber.
