About Diethyl Phthalate
Diethyl phthalate, a phthalate ester is colorless liquid that has a bitter, disagreeable taste. DEP is produced by the reaction of ethanol with phthalic anhydride, in the presence of a strong acid catalyst.
Diethyl phthalate is also used in cosmetics, insecticides, and aspirin. It is used as solvent and vehicle for fragrance and cosmetic ingredients, as well as alcohol denaturant. It is used as a plasticizer in a wide variety of consumer products, including plastic packaging films, cosmetic formulations, and toiletries.
