About Diethyl ether
Diethyl ether is an organic compound in the ether class with the formula (C2H5)2O. It appears as a clear colorless liquid which has sweet-smelling odor. Diethyl ether is produced as a byproduct of the vapor-phase hydration of ethylene to make ethanol.
Diethyl ether (CAS 60-29-7) is used as a solvent in the manufacture of synthetic dyes and plastics. It is used as a solvent in the production of cellulose plastics such as cellulose acetate. It is used as a starting fluid, in combination with petroleum distillates for gasoline and Diesel engines.
