Carbon tetrachloride CTC, also known as tetrachloromethane, is an organic compound with the chemical formula CCl4 which is a clear, colorless, volatile and very stable chlorinated hydrocarbon. It is a manufactured chemical that does not occur naturally in the environment.
Carbon tetrachloride is used as a solvent in the rubber industry. It is used as an occluding and nonoxidizing agent in fire extinguishers. It is used as a dry cleaning solvent, degreasing agent, refrigerant, fumigant, in fire extinguishers and for lacquers and varnishes.
