Benzalkonium Chloride is primarily used as a preservative and antimicrobial agent, and secondarily used as a surfactant. Benzalkonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic and disinfectant with actions and uses similar to those of other cationic surfactants. It is used prior to surgical procedures or for minor wound care to reduce risks of infection.
